Fantasy Waiver Wire Week 11: Cam Newton, Wayne Gallman among top free agent pickups

Fantasy Waiver Wire Week 11: Cam Newton, Wayne Gallman among top free agent pickups

Hopefully, you don’t need reinforcements heading into this coming week because our top Week 11 fantasy waiver wire pickups and free agent adds is a pretty rough group. Sure, there are a couple potential difference-makers at RB (Rhamondre Stevenson, D’Onta Foreman, Wayne Gallman), if even for one week, and an old favorite at QB (Cam Newton) who could turn back the clock for a few games. Overall, though, most of this week’s pickups will be targeted as free agents after waivers clear around 4-5 a.m. ET on Wednesday mornings in Yahoo and ESPN leagues.

Our full free agent list does feature some interesting depth pieces, such as WRs Rashod BatemanJamal Agnew, Van Jefferson, or Marcus Johnson, TEs Dan Arnold or Tyler Conklin, or handcuff RBs like Chuba Hubbard or Jeff Wilson Jr. While none are “must-haves,” they could come in handy at some point in the future. That includes the immediate future, which is why we also have a ton of Week 11 streamer suggestions at QB, WR, TE, and D/ST. As always, those can be found at the end of this list. If you’re one of those weirdos who enjoys looking at lists of kickers, check out our Week 11 kicker rankings.

MORE WEEK 11: Full waiver list

Last week, we saw a couple developments (Nick Chubb testing positive for COVID, news of Alvin Kamara’s knee injury) change the waiver wire landscape as late as Tuesday afternoon. Be on the lookout for similar situations this week. Right now, there are no clear-cut pickups who are worth a claim. Stevenson loses value if Damien Harris (concussion) is due back, and possible committee guys like Jordan Howard, Foreman, and Gallman have limited ceilings. If you don’t need an RB this week, then you’re probably better off saving your high claim for the inevitable future injuries or important streamers.

Top fantasy football waiver wire pickups for Week 11

Unless otherwise noted, only players owned in fewer than 50 percent of Yahoo leagues considered.

Cam Newton, QB, Panthers. Newton accounted for two short TDs in Week 10 and proudly announced that he’s “back.” That might be true for fantasy purposes, too. We’re not going to ignore how ugly it was to watch Newton at times with the Patriots last year, but he did rush for 592 yards and 12 TDs last year in 15 starts. That part of his game remains a constant. With improved receivers around him, it’s possible Newton returns to a high-floor, borderline-QB1 every week. He’s going to take the majority of first-team reps in practice this week, indicating he’ll likely start in Week 11 against a Washington defense that allows the most fantasy poins per game to QBs. Newton a high-upside streamer with plenty of potential future value.

Wayne Gallman, RB, Falcons. Cordarrelle Patterson tweaked his ankle in Week 10, opening the door for Gallman to operate in a committee with Mike Davis against the Patriots on Thursday night. Gallman had 15 carries for 55 yards and one catch for 21 yards against the Cowboys in Week 10, though his workload might have been more a reflection of Atlanta getting blown out. We’d still expect Davis to be the “lead back” in Week 11, but if Patterson is out multiple weeks, Gallman could certainly have value in Week 12 against Jacksonville.

Van Jefferson, WR, Rams. Jefferson was second on the Rams in targets (7) and receiving yards (54) on Monday night. It wasn’t a banner game, but he dropped what should have been an easy touchdown that would have really boosted his outlook in the post-Robert Woods (knee) era. Even though we can expect Odell Beckham Jr. to receive more targets next time out, Jefferson could easily still be the No. 2 wide receiver. Even though the Rams offense has sputtered lately, that role will yield a steady amount of fantasy points after L.A.’s Week 11 bye.

WEEK 11 PPR RANKINGS:
Quarterback | Running back | Wide receiver | Tight end | D/ST | Kicker

Jeff Wilson Jr., RB, 49ers. JWJ was active in Week 10 but didn’t get a touch. In Week 11, he was clearly the No. 2 behind Elijah Mitchell, rushing 10 times. He gained just 28 yards, but Wilson Jr. is a priority handcuff for the stretch run. Not only will he be highly valuable if Mitchell were to miss time again, but he also could have standalone flex value in the right matchups — like next week against Jacksonville or Week 13 against Seattle.

Logan Thomas, TE, Washington. We thought Thomas (hamstring) was going to play last week, but he wasn’t ready to get on the field. With Ricky Seals-Jones injuring his hip last week, it’s possible Washington puts an emphasis on getting Thomas back this week against Carolina. Either way, Thomas will have value when he does return, so if he’s available on your wire, scoop him up now. If for now other reason, you don’t want him landing on future opponent.
