Atalanta vs. Manchester United live score, updates, highlights from UEFA Champions League Matchday 4

Manchester United will look to put a stranglehold on its Champions League Group F lead when it travels to Bergamo, Italy, for a match against rising Euro power Atalanta, which allowed the Red Devils to come from behind to claim a 3-2 win in their last head-to-head matchup at Old Trafford.

Atalanta played well in that match and seized a commanding 2-0 lead, only for Man United to storm back in the second half with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring the late game-winner to stun La Dea. This time with the home crowd on its side, Atalanta will hope it can replicate its first-half performance and secure a win, which would see it overtake United in the Group F standings with two matches left to play.

The Red Devils aim to continue a resurgence in the wake of a humiliating 5-0 Premier League home loss to Liverpool that nearly cost manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer his job. The Norwegian coach was allowed to continue and immediately changed Man United’s formation to a 3-5-2 that worked to near perfection in a 3-0 road win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. Solskjaer is using the same tactical setup in Italy for the match against an Atalanta side that is in fifth place in the Italian Serie A and is coming off a last-minute 2-2 home draw against Lazio.

Goals:
ATA — Josip Ilicic (Duvan Zapata) — 12th min.

(All times Eastern)

21st min.: Duvan Zapata escapes behind the Man United back line and his shot just misses the top right corner. ManU’s back line didn’t respond well to that one.

20th min.: Ronaldo header! It’s been all Man United in the last few minutes. A Pogba cross from the right is flicked by Ronaldo toward goal, but it’s off the mark.

17th min.: First time shot by Luke Shaw that bounces off the ground and over the bar. That cross came from the right and Shaw was in the box ready to receive it.

14th min.: Chance for Ronaldo! But Atalanta goalkeeper Juan Musso gets to the ball just before the Man United striker.

12th min.: Goal Atalanta! Duvan Zapata gets played in behind and he sends a clever ball across the box to Josip Ilicic who takes it first time and it somehow gets past David De Gea.

5th min.: Man United hits the post! Scott McTominay with a shot toward goal that’s deflected and catches the ‘keeper wrong-footed. And it rolls slowly off the left post.

1st min.: We’re off. Both teams with identical formations. We’ll see how they match up.
