Magnitude-4.4 earthquake off SoCal coast shakes parts of Los Angeles

In the early hours of Monday morning, a magnitude-4.4 earthquake rattled the ocean off the Southern California coast, causing noticeable shaking in the Los Angeles area. The earthquake’s epicenter was located approximately 25 miles south of San Clemente Island and 60 miles south of Avalon, situated on the southern end of Santa Catalina Island. The quake had a depth of 13 miles.

Reports of shaking began at around 2:44 a.m. and were felt in various locations, including Los Angeles, Redondo Beach, Paramount, and other nearby communities. Despite the tremors, there have been no reports of damage or injuries associated with the earthquake.

San Clemente Island, where the earthquake originated, is the southernmost island in the Channel Islands chain off the coast of California. It is situated about 60 miles off the coast of San Diego. Earthquakes are relatively common in Southern California due to the region’s proximity to various fault lines, and residents are generally accustomed to experiencing seismic activity.
