Family speaks after father of 4 gunned down in Los Angeles

In a tragic incident in South Los Angeles, Marquette Scott Jr., a 32-year-old father of four, was fatally shot while sitting in his vehicle at a gas station. The shooting occurred around 11 p.m. in the Vermont Knolls neighborhood, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Scott Jr., who had been out shopping for presents for his four children, was at the gas station on his way home when he became the victim of a senseless act of violence.

The assailants, as seen in surveillance footage, approached the area in a car before firing multiple shots at Scott Jr. and fleeing the scene. The victim’s vehicle bore bullet holes, and the glass doors at the front of the mini-mart where he was filling up were shattered. Tragically, Marquette Scott Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics with the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The devastating incident has left the victim’s family in shock and mourning. His mother, Melanie Gammage, shared her grief, emphasizing that her son was not just a son but also a great father, brother, and cousin. Scott Jr.’s shopping trip, intended to bring joy to his children, ended in an unthinkable tragedy.

Despite the surveillance footage capturing the suspects, the Los Angeles Police Department currently lacks information about the perpetrators or the vehicle used in the shooting. The family, desperate for answers and justice, issued an appeal for anyone with information to come forward. Melanie Gammage specifically called on the individuals responsible for her son’s death to turn themselves in.
